one room challenge week 7 - reveal day!

it's finally here, reveal day for the One Room Challenge guest participants with Linda of blog Calling It Home.  the journey to make over our master bedroom started seven weeks ago.  normally the projects must be completed in six weeks, but Linda graciously extended the ORC an extra week this time around.

what began as a kelly green, dated nightmare, is now a soothing, sophisticated retreat for mark and i to relax in.  if you want to go back to the beginning and get caught up, that's great, or if you just want to get to the good stuff, i understand that too!

the tasks for this project included painting the walls, adding a killer wallpaper, installing a new ceiling fan, upgrading to a king size bed, new window treatments, new bedside tables and storage, new bedding, new closet systems, new door knobs (throughout the house) and styling with special touches.

the design for the room all started with a wallpaper.  i had my eye on this zoffany paper for almost a year, as soon as it was released, and now i get to see it every day!  i'm so in love!!!

i can't wait to show you the before and afters, so let's dive in shall we?

ah, the master bedroom before.  i love green, but this is too much for even me to handle.  the fan, curtain rods and wall mounted lamps had to go.  at least the carpet was new and the room was a good size.

and here is my master bedroom now.  so.  much.  better.  i smile every time i walk in here!

i still can't believe this is our room now, it's such a drastic difference!  the room is filled with lots of blush pink, but it's balanced by heavy doses of navy and black to keep it from being too feminine.  i have a lot of favorite pieces in here, but one in particular is the vintage chest i picked up at a local shop.  they lacquered it creamy white for me and it is perfect for storing extra clothes.  i feel like the lines show up so much better now.

ONE ROOM CHALLENGE WEEK 6!

so...usually week six is the reveal week during the One Room Challenge with Linda of blog Calling It Home.  this time around, she has given everyone an extra week to finish up due to those participants affected by recent natural disasters.  i'm happy to report, my room is ready for its close up and the green walls are a thing of the past!  i'm dying to give you a little sneak peek, but you'll have to wait until the end of this post.

first, let's talk paint.  i really struggled with what color to paint my walls.  because of my wallpaper, i was worried the room would become too dark if the walls were painted a dark color.  i decided to pull the lighter shade from my panel fabric and chose Benjamin Moore 'chelsea gray.'  i LOVE the color, it's warm and enveloping.  i also wanted to paint the ceiling, so i chose Benjamin Moore 'bashful.'  you really have to look at the ceiling to tell it's a different color, but during the day you get this perfect blush of color.

the closets are coming along as well.  there just needs to be a little more styling, and editing if i'm being honest, so i'm spending the weekend pulling things to donate and making room for new goodies i'll actually wear.

i can't explain how excited i am to share this room with you all next week!  this bedroom is one of my new favorite spaces and it's nice to have a place for mark and i to retreat to that's so 'grown up' and stylish!

head over to Calling It Home to check out the other guest participants along with the twenty featured designers.  there are so many good rooms, i can't even stand it!!!
